COLLEGE STATION-The defending Big 12 and national champion Texas A&M equestrian team hosts its final home show of the fall on Saturday when the second-ranked Aggies battle No. 5 Oklahoma State. Show time is set for 11 a.m. at the Brazos County Expo Complex and admission is free.
The show was originally scheduled for 2 p.m. but was moved up in order to accommodate fans who also wanted to watch the football game at Oklahoma (2:30 p.m.). It will take place in two arenas at the Expo Complex, which is located at 3827 Leonard Road in Bryan. Horsemanship and fences will begin simultaneously at 11 a.m., while flat and reining will start at approximately 1 p.m.
This will be the first of two meetings between the conference rivals this season, as A&M will travel to Stillwater in late February. The teams will ride six in each of the four disciplines for a total of 24 team points at stake.
Competing over fences for Texas A&M will be seniors Lia Chafee and Maggie Earle, juniors Kori Pickett, Kelsi Shevlin and Emily Williams, and freshman Leah Chenelle. On the flat, the Aggies' team will be Chafee and Earle along with fellow seniors Marisa Bernal, Hannah Soibelman and Elizabeth Solch, and junior Kristin Bell.
On the western side, seniors Kelsey Adams and Katie Lisabeth, juniors Amanda Brightwell, Cassie Mantor and Carey Nowacek, and freshman Molli Jacobs will compete in horsemanship. The reining team will be seniors Courtney Dawe and Abigail Grabein, juniors Courtney Kile, Becca Murray and Emma Myers, and sophomore Lindsey Bernbaum.
Bernbaum and Nowacek will compete as the reigning Big 12 Equestrian Riders of the Month in reining and horsemanship, respectively, having won the conference's first-ever awards earlier this week.
Texas A&M leads the all-time series with the Cowgirls, 9-4. The squads split a pair of regular-season meetings last season, with each winning at its home arena, before the Aggies topped OSU 11-4 in April to win the program's first Big 12 Championship.
Scoring updates throughout the show will be provided through the team's official twitter feed at twitter.com/AggieEquestrian and will also be available on aggieathletics.com.
