Nel, Patrick Sweep Big 12 Diver of the Week Honors

Texas A&M seniors Grant Nel and Jaele Patrick swept the Big 12 Diver of the Week awards after strong season-opening performances last week, the conference office announced.
 
Both from Victoria in Australia, Nel earned the men's honor after grabbing first- and third-place finishes at the Southwest Collegiate Plunge, while Patrick received the women's award after a perfect 4-for-4 performance in dual meets against Missouri and Texas.
 
Nel, from Melbourne, won the three-meter dive by over 40 points with a score of 450.25 and took third on the one-meter with a score of 357.80. Nel is coming off a spectacular junior campaign that saw him grab runner-up finishes on the one- and three-meter boards and a bronze medal finish on the tower at the 2011 NCAA Championships.
 
Patrick, from Lilydale, posted winning scores of 324.08 and 370.95 in the one- and three-meter events, respectively, against Missouri, and improved both of those scores to 327.08 and 377.93 against the Longhorns. The 2010 Big 12 Diver of the Year, Patrick is healthy after missing last season due to a back injury.
 
Receiving the Big 12 Swimmer of the Week awards were Neil Caskey and Leah Gingrich of Texas.
