Reveille Invitational starts A&M indoor campaign

The three-time defending NCAA Championship Aggies open their indoor track and field season Saturday with free admission, two-hour Reveille Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium at 12:30.

COLLEGE STATION - A two-hour Reveille Invitational, starting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, opens the indoor track and field season for a Texas A&M program that became the first to win three consecutive men's and women's NCAA Outdoor Championships this past June.

Admittance to the Reveille Invitational, which includes Houston and TCU, is free. Fans will also be able to pick their own seat in purchasing season tickets for the 2012 campaign.

In addition there will be a fan give away prior to the 4 x 400 relays, around 2 p.m., and will include an autograph session with the athletes.

Events contested at the Reveille Invitational include: 60 meters, 800 meters, 5000 meters (men), 60 hurdles, 4x400 relay, distance medley relay, high jump, pole vault, long jump, shot put and weight throw. Results and updates from the meet will be available through flashresults.com and @aggietrk on twitter.

Eight All-Americans return this season from the Aggie national championship squads that completed a NCAA Championship Triple-Double. Six of those eight athletes currently hold A&M school records.

Michael Preble, who set school records in the 600 yards and 800 meters during the 2011 indoor season, will be part of a 4 x 400 relay on Saturday with Big 12 Indoor 800 champion Joey Roberts, who briefly held the school 800m indoor record.

Preble, who placed third in the NCAA Indoor 800 and won the Big 12 800 title outdoors, also ran on the NCAA Outdoor winning 4x400 relay that secured A&M's third national team championship last summer.

In the 60 meters, the Aggie sprint tandem of Prezel Hardy, Jr. and Michael Bryan will compete with freshman newcomer Kenneth Minkah, who will also contest the 60 hurdles.

All-American sprinters Dominique Duncan and Ashley Collier will headline the women's 60 meters for A&M. Another All-American sprinter, Ibukun Mayungbe, will run on a 4 x 400 relay with Collier.

Laura Asimakis, an All-American in the javelin, competes in the pole vault, an event she holds the outdoor school record of 13-10 ½. The indoor school record in the vault is 13-3 ¾ set by Erica Boren in 2002. Joining Asimakis, who has an indoor best of 12-10, is Aly Daily, whose indoor best of 13-0 ¼ currently ranks second best in school history.

Cameron Alexander and Tyler Lee, who sit at No. 6 (6-11) and No. 7 (6-10 ¾) on the Aggies all-time indoor high jump list, renew their pursuit of 7-0 while joined by freshman Dylan Richards, who makes his debut with the Aggies sporting a 6-10 best from high school.

In the weight throw Cole Knuth and Casey Strong each challenged the school record last season. A mark of 61 feet, 0 inches claimed the A&M record for Knuth during the Big 12 Championships when the pair placed fifth and sixth. Strong's best of 60-1 ranks third on the Aggie all-time list.

Taylor Rosser will contest both the women's shot put and weight throw, where she is No. 7 in both events on the A&M all-time lists.
