
Aggies Host Sam Houston State in Final Game Before Conference Play

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -
The No. 21 Texas A&M softball team (26-7) hosts Sam Houston State (12-20) in a midweek matchup, Wednesday at the Aggie Softball Complex at 6:30 p.m.
In 2010 when the Aggies hosted the Bearkats, A&M defeated SHSU, 4-3 on a walk-off hit by junior Rhi Kliesing laced a double to right-center to clear the bases and tie the game.
Texas A&M holds an 83-13 record against SHSU and has won the last 36 games against the Bearkats, dating back to 1995.

LAST TIME OUT
The Aggies went 5-0 at the USF The Game Tournament in Clearwater and Tampa, Fla. The team run-ruled four opponents and shut out three on the way to an undefeated weekend. Dumezich (14-4) posted a perfect 0.00 ERA in three complete games in the circle, allowing only one unearned run on nine hits while fanning 30 batters. The Whiting, Ind., native broke her previous career record for strikeouts in a game with 12 against Colorado State. Dumezich added a single, two doubles, a triple and a home run from the plate for a powerful weekend. Sophomore Meagan May hit .643 on the weekend with three home runs, including a grand slam against Buffalo, tallying 14 RBI and 20 total bases in five games. The catcher was 9-for-14 on the tournament.
SCOUTING SHSU
The Bearkats (12-20, 4-7) dropped a three-game conference series to UTSA, 1-2, last weekend in San Antonio. SHSU lost both games of a double-header to the Roadrunners Saturday before picking up a 6-5 win on Sunday. The Bearkats were 21-28 in 2010. The team returns 11 of 19 letterwinners, including All-Southland Conference players Hailey Wiginton and Erin Burford. Sophomore Kim Damian leads the offense in 2011, recording a .410 batting average with 17 runs on 34 hits, including six doubles and two long balls. In the circle, junior Tomi Garrison (9-10) posts a 3.03 ERA in 22 appearances. The right-handed pitcher has thrown 87 strikeouts and allowed 53 earned runs on 139 hits in 122.1 innings of work.
ON DECK
The Aggies enter Big 12 play this weekend in Waco, challenging No. 15 Baylor in a 2 p.m. Saturday matchup before returning home to host the Bears Sunday at the Aggie Softball Complex at 3 p.m.
AGGIES IN THE POLLS
Texas A&M started the season ranked in the top 25 in both preseason national polls, and is currently ranked No. 21 by ESPN.com/USA Softball, and 22nd by USA Today/NFCA. A&M's remaining opponents appearing in the polls are No. 8/10 Texas, No. 12/7 Oklahoma, No. 14/18 Nebraska, No. 16/13 Missouri, No. 17/15 Baylor, No. 18/17 Oklahoma State and No. 20/19 Texas Tech. In addition, Kansas is receiving votes in both polls.
BIG 12 PRESEASON POLL
A&M was picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Aggies received 54 points and finished behind preseason favorite Oklahoma (79), Missouri (71) and Texas (69). A&M was selected as the frontrunner for three consecutive years, from 2006-08, and was picked sixth last season. Oklahoma State placed fifth with 50 points, followed by Baylor (40), Texas Tech (33), Nebraska (26), Iowa State (15) and Kansas (13).
AGGIE SOFTBALL ON TV
The Aggies are one of four Big 12 teams to play in front of a national audience in 2011. A&M's contest against Texas on May 4 will air on FSN. The game is set for a 6:30 first pitch.
