The teams were tied at 11-11 in the opening set before A&M went on an 11-2 run to break away. The Aggies got eight kills from five different players and an ace apiece from Black and libero Megan Pendergast during the streak.
A&M held a 23-16 lead when Black blasted a kill off the Butler block and followed with a straight-down kill to close out the set. Back-to-back kills by Elise Hendrickson gave A&M a 5-4 lead early in the second set, and the Aggies would not trail for the remainder of the match. Butler stayed within a point at 14-13 before a kill by Tori Mellinger began a 4-0 run for the Aggies. Butler countered with a kill and a block, but the Bulldogs then served into net and followed with an attack that went wide to give A&M a 20-15 lead.
