MIAMI—The 11th-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team closed out play this weekend at the Gardnar Mulloy Miami Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida, as individuals and doubles teams faced off. In addition to Miami and Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Illinois were also in attendance at the invitational.
“We continued to have excellent doubles play winning nine of the 11 matches this weekend,” Aggie head coach Steve Denton said. “I thought we improved overall as a team this weekend and got some much needed match play experience against some quality players. This will help us in preparing for the opening of our team season next weekend in Aggieland.”
This invitational is not scored as a team event but as individuals and doubles. The Aggies faced the Texas Tech doubles teams and the Miami individuals on Saturday. A&M won three of the four doubles matches and six of the seven singles matches.
Texas A&M, the defending Big 12 Champions, will open the spring team season with a doubleheader a week from today (Jan. 21) as Louisiana Lafayette faces A&M at 12 noon and UTSA matches up with the Aggies at 4:30 p.m. at the George Mitchell Tennis Center on the Texas A&M campus.
