Aggies Head to Rival LSU

Both of the Texas A&M swimming and diving teams will travel to Baton Rouge, La. Saturday as each squad faces off against host LSU in dual meet action.

The women's team is coming off of a pair of meets: a dual meet victory over SMU on Jan. 12 and a three-day Olympic-style meet in Austin, the Austin Grand Prix. A&M is 3-1 in dual meet action during the 2011-2012 season with wins over Missouri, Rice and SMU.

The Aggies took on the Tigers in the 2010-2011 season in College Station, besting the to-be SEC opponents 160-120.

Head Coach Steve Bultman, a former coach at LSU, said that the meet will prove to be exciting, even against his alma mater.

"It's always great to go back- it's where I graduated and I helped rebuild the program there," Bultman said. "I like to see them do well every time they compete except when they race against the Aggies."

Aggie sophomore Cammile Adams will lead her team in the lanes, as she comes off of her first Performance of the Week honors from Swimming World magazine. Her accolades follow a pair of wins over former Olympic athletes at the Austin Grand Prix.

The men's team is coming off of its third dual meet victory of the season with a "W" against Incarnate Word Jan. 12 in College Station.

Sophomore swimmer Henrik Lindau won a pair of events for the Aggies with first place touches in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.

Head Coach Jay Holmes said that the teams have swam each other since he can remember, and it the meet has developed into a high-intensity contest.

"I think it's a great rivalry- neither team goes into the meet expecting to lose," Holmes said. "I'm looking forward to a great competitive college dual meet. It's going to be a lot of fun."

With less than a month before the Big 12 Championship meet, both teams are looking to seal their rosters for the championship season and ensure their swimmers are in the best shape they can be.

"We're asking the team to be more intense now that it's crunch time," Holmes said. "It's crunch time, and that means it's time to be good. This is the fun time of the year, it's why we spend the whole fall beating our guys up any way we can."

The Aggie divers will also compete in Baton Rouge Saturday as some of the A&M squad members are coming off of big performances.

On the men's side, senior Grant Nel and junior Hayden Jones are coming off of a win each at the Incarnate Word meet. Nel took the 1-meter springboard with a 395.95 and Jones took the 3-meter with a season best 429.95.

The women's squad is led by senior Jaele Patrick, who took both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events against SMU with scores of 344.65 and 371.10, respectively. Senior Janie Potvin finished just behind Patrick with scored of 329.70 and 349.85 on the 1-meter and 3-meter, respectively.
