Ameer Webb earns Big 12 Athlete of the Week honor

Texas A&M junior sprinter Ameer Webb earned Big 12 Athlete of the Week honors after claiming a sprint double during the Aggies dual meet victory over preseason No. 3 LSU, 88-68, this past weekend.

IRVING - Texas A&M junior sprinter Ameer Webb earned Big 12 Athlete of the Week honors after claiming a sprint double during the Aggies dual meet victory over preseason No. 3 LSU, 88-68, this past weekend.

Webb recorded a world leading time of 20.94 for the 2012 indoor season in winning the 200 meters and clocked a Big 12 leading 6.66 seconds in the 60, making him the third fastest Aggie ever in the short dash. Webb currently ranks No. 7 on the A&M all-time indoor list for the 200.

This weekend Webb and the Aggies will host the Texas A&M Challenge presented by Mondo America. The A&M Challenge will feature two teams from the Big 12 (Texas A&M, Texas Tech), Pac-12 (Arizona State, Oregon) and SEC (Florida, Tennessee), and the meet will be scored by conference.

USTFCCA Rankings

Texas A&M men and women each improved in the national rankings following a home dual meet with LSU. The Aggie men moved to No. 9 from No.12 while the A&M women went to No. 11 from No. 17.

The top 10 men's teams include: 1. Arkansas, 2. Florida, 3. LSU, 4. Florida State, 5. Texas, 6. Indiana, 7. Stanford, 8. Nebraska, 9. Texas A&M, 10. Arizona.

The top 10 women's teams include: 1. Oregon, 2. LSU, 3. Arkansas, 4. Clemson, 5. Texas, 6. Central Florida, 7. BYU, 8. Texas Tech, 9. Florida State, 10. Southern Mississippi, 11. Texas A&M.

Event Rankings

The dual meet hosted by the Aggies featured five collegiate leading marks. Following Webb's 20.94 world leader in the 200, A&M's Michael Preble produced a collegiate leading 1:49.51 in winning the 800.

Also topping the American and collegiate list so far in 2012 was the LSU trio of Caleb Williams (46.60) in the 400, Kimberlyn Duncan (23.29 world leader) in the women's 200, and Cassandra Tate (53.13) in the women's 400.
