May Named to USA Softball Top 50 Watch List

Texas A&M softball junior Meagan May was named to the 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List, the softball national governing body announced today.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M softball junior Meagan May was named to the 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List, the softball national governing body announced today.

May (Spring, Texas) has been crucial for the Aggies in the past two seasons, both from and behind the plate. The catcher broke a league and team record for home runs in a season with 24 as a freshman in 2010 and posted a .748 slugging percentage while ranking second on the team with 14 bombs and 37 walks last season. An outstanding NCAA Tournament weekend last season earned her a spot on the 2011 All-College Station Regional team.

This fall May earned a Pan Am Games gold medal after playing for the USA Women's National Team in Guadalajara, Mexico. She was also selected to the USA Softball Futures Team in 2010 and has been invited to try out for the 2012 USA WNT this June.

May is one of 20 juniors on the watch list and joins 10 other Big 12 student-athletes in the running. Top 25 finalists will be announced on April 11, followed by the Top 10 on May 9 and the Top 3 on May 23. Prior to the start of the Women's College World Series, the 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced on May 29.
