A&M Opens Spring at SMU, TCU

The third-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team opens its spring season on Friday when the Aggies compete in a split-squad "doubleheader" in the Metroplex.

COLLEGE STATION-The third-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team opens its spring season on Friday when the Aggies compete in a split-squad "doubleheader" in the Metroplex.

Where normally the hunter seat and western squads both compete against the same opponent, the two teams will split and face off against SMU and TCU, respectively, on opposite sides of the Dallas/Fort Worth Area.

The Aggie hunter seat squad (5-3) will meet the Mustangs at BuckBranch Farm in Wilmer at 10 a.m., while the western riders (8-0) will put their undefeated record on the line against the Horned Frogs at 6 p.m. inside John Justin Arena in Fort Worth. The competition against TCU is part of the Fort Worth Stock Show.

SMU (5-4), which sponsors only hunter seat, will also be opening up spring competition on Friday and will be looking to snap a three-show losing streak. A&M leads the all-time series with the Mustangs, 5-1, including an 8-4 victory last fall at the Brazos County Expo Complex.

TCU is 2-6 on the season as a full squad and will be facing A&M for the second time this year. The Aggies stopped the Frogs, 12-7, back on Oct. 28 in Bryan-winning seven of 10 western rides. A&M's western team is 4-2 all-time against TCU.

Texas A&M is riding the momentum of a very impressive first half of the season into the spring. The Aggies won seven of eight shows, including victories over Georgia, Oklahoma State and Kansas State.

Scoring updates throughout the show will be provided through the team's official twitter feed at twitter.com/AggieEquestrian and will also be available on aggieathletics.com.
