No. 13 Aggies Hosts Cowgirls in BTHO Breast Cancer Game

Tipoff between the Aggies and the Cowgirls is set for 7 p.m. at Reed Arena.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - With just five games remaining in the Big 12 Conference regular season, the 13th-ranked Texas A&M women's basketball team plays host to Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 18 for its sixth-annual BTHO Breast Cancer Game. Tipoff between the Aggies and the Cowgirls is set for 7 p.m. at Reed Arena.

  • Texas A&M has won five of its last six games and has been led by Kelsey Bone with 13.2 points and 6.3 rebounds in those six contests.

SCOUTING OKLAHOMA STATE

  • Oklahoma State University is located in Stillwater, Okla., has an enrollment of 33,464 and was founded in 1890.
  • The Cowgirls return two starters and six letterwinners from their 2010-11 squad that finished the season 24-11 overall and 9-7 in the Big 12.
  • OSU made it to round two of the WNIT tournament last postseason, before falling to Wyoming, 71-75. They last made the NCAA Tournament in 2010.
  • Oklahoma State has lost five of its last six games and is 2-5 on the road this season. What's more is that the Cowgirls have lost their last three away contests (at Texas, at Oklahoma and at Iowa State) by an average margin of 15.3 points.

OKLAHOMA STATE FLASHBACK

  • Tiffany Bias scored 14 points, including a tiebreaking layup with 28 seconds left, and Oklahoma State beat a ranked opponent for the second time this season, downing No. 14 Texas A&M 57-53 on Tuesday night. After Bias' layup broke a 53-53 tie, Texas A&M's Sydney Carter missed a 15-foot jumper with 6 seconds left. Lindsey Keller rebounded for the Cowgirls and hit two free throws with 4.3 seconds left. Tyra White had 15 points for Texas A&M. Oklahoma State (12-4, 4-3 Big 12) had lost 14 of its last 16 games against Texas A&M (13-5, 4-3), including the last seven at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowgirls took the lead with an 11-0 run in the first half, but Texas A&M rallied and twice took a two-point lead in the second half. The Aggies were done in by a season-high 26 turnovers and couldn't take advantage of Oklahoma State's season-high 28 miscues.

TWO SENIORS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-BIG 12

  • Kelsey Assarian and Adaora Elonu earned recognition on the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Women's Basketball Team on Feb. 14. Assarian was one of just six student-athletes in the conference to become a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree. Elonu, already a two-time Academic All-Big 12 second team member, earned a spot on the first team for the first time in her career.

SENIOR SCORING AND BALANCE = WINS

  • Texas A&M has one of the most balanced-scoring teams in the Big 12 with four players averaging double figures. Three of those players are seniors Carter, Elonu and White. When this trio of leaders scores double digits, A&M has lost just a single game at 9-1.
  • What's more is four Aggies have scored double figures on nine occasions this season and A&M is an undefeated 9-0 in those games.

  • Alexia Standish is only the fifth true freshman to start at point guard in Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair's nine seasons in Aggieland and she has the second-most starts of that impressive group.

  • Carter is four steals away (186) from moving into the top 10 all-time at A&M.
  • With just 2 of her 8 points at Missouri, White moved into seventh place on A&M's career points list. Her 1,392 career points, allowed her to pass All-American Danielle Adams (1,386 career points).
  • With two rebounds against K-State, Elonu moved into seventh place on the career rebounds list and currently has 669 boards.
  • Carter and Elonu recently became the 24th and 25th players to pass over 1,000 career points- Carter against Kansas on Jan. 21 and Elonu against Oklahoma State on Jan. 24.
