No. 11 Aggies Finish Seventh at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

The No. 11 Texas A&M women's golf team finished seventh in the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship at the English Turn Golf & Country Club.

NEW ORLEANS - Sophomore Katerina Ruzickova shot an even-par 72 in the final round and the No. 11 Texas A&M women's golf team finished seventh in the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship at the English Turn Golf & Country Club.

Ruzickova carded her lowest round of the tournament Tuesday to finish tied for 11th with 220 (74-74-72). Freshman Patricia Garcia also turned in her lowest round with a 1-over 73. She tied for 16th with a 222 (74-75-73).

As a team, the Aggies fired a 298 in their final round and totaled 896 (300-298-298) for the three-day event.

The No. 13 Duke golfers combined for an even-par round, the lowest of the tournament, to take home the title with 877 (295-294-288). No. 17 Colorado shot its lowest round to finish second with 880, while No. 4 USC dropped to third with 881. No. 2 Alabama (884) placed fourth, followed by No. 19 Baylor (887) and Tulane (893). No. 3 Auburn (897) and No. 20 Oregon tied for eighth and No. 18 Florida (898) was 10th.

"It was a rough start for us, but I'm proud of our team for fighting through it," A&M head coach Trelle McCombs said. "We made some much-needed birdies at the end of the round and managed to stay in the top 10. I think we learned a lot about where we need to work on our games. I'm very proud of Patricia (Garcia) this week. She really stepped up."

Junior Susy Grunden tallied a 6-over 78 in her final round and tied for 38th overall with 226 (74-74-78). Junior Mary Michael Maggio tied for 46th with 229. She turned in rounds of 78-76-75. Junior Sarah Beth Davis tied for 61st counting 78-75-83 for 236.

Sophomore Natalie Reeves competed as an individual and tied for 69th with 239 (80-80-79).

The Aggies return to the course March 13-14 when they travel to Honolulu, Hawai'i, for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
