Deon Lendore selected Big 12 Athlete of the Week

Texas A&M freshman sprinter Deon Lendore was selected as the Big 12 Athlete of the Week, sharing the men's honor with Oklahoma discus thrower Luke Bryant.

IRVING - Texas A&M freshman sprinter Deon Lendore was selected as the Big 12 Athlete of the Week, sharing the men's honor with Oklahoma discus thrower Luke Bryant.

Lendore, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, won the 400 meters in a career best of 45.56 seconds at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational. That time moves him to No. 9 on the Aggie all-time list, one spot ahead of Ted Nelson's 45.93 from 1965.

In the 4 x 400 relay Lendore anchored the Aggies to victory with a 45.2 split as A&M ran 3:06.44 to defeat Auburn (3:08.95).

Having broken his previous personal best in the 400 twice this outdoor season Lendore posted the second fastest time by a collegian for the 2012 season as well as the fifth fastest time in the world.

USTFCCCA NATIONAL RANKINGS

Texas A&M remained ranked  No. 4 in the men's national computer rankings and No. 5 in the women's national rankings. This weekend the Aggies travel to Baton Rouge for Saturday's LSU Alumni Gold Invitational where they face a host squad with its women's team ranked No. 2 and the men are No. 5.

Texas A&M women top the seven Big 12 schools ranked among the top 25. Texas Tech moved to No. 3 in the men's rankings and tops the six Big 12 schools currently ranked in the top 25.
