Aggie Pair Earns Weekly Honors

Sophomore goalie Jordan Day and junior defender Rachel Lenz were both honored for their weekend efforts with honors on Monday.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M Soccer sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Day and junior defender Rachel Lenz were both bestowed honors on Monday in recognition of their efforts in the Aggies' two wins over the weekend.

Day missed out on SEC Defensive Player of the Week recognition issued by the league, but was tabbed the SEC Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com. TopDrawerSoccer.com named Lenz to its 11-player National Team of the Week.

Day registered a pair of shutouts on the week with a 3-0 win against No. 16 Long Beach State and a 2-0 win against Central Michigan. She extended a streak of consecutive scoreless minutes to 336, dating back to the 24th minute of the Aggies' 4-1 win over then-No. 16 Rutgers. The sophomore made seven saves on the week, including four against Long Beach State and three against Central Michigan.

On the season, Day has four shutouts and a 0.43 goals-against average allowing just three goals in seven games.

Lenz played all 180 minutes on defense as the Aggies pitched a couple of shutouts. The Round Rock, Texas native spearheaded a defense that allowed just seven shots on goal for the week, including just two in the second halves of games. In Texas A&M's 3-0 win over No. 16 Long Beach State, Lenz helped hold Long Beach State's leading scorer Alex Balcer without a shot. Lenz and the Aggies' defense did a similar job on Central Michigan's leading scorers Kaely Schlosser and Laura Twidle to a combined one shot for the game.

The Aggies (6-1-0) hit the road on Friday to make their SEC debut when Texas A&M faces LSU in a 7 p.m. match in Baton Rouge.
