Mobile, AL. (Jan. 8)-Texas A&M's move to the SEC may not happen for a few more months but Senior Bowl fans will get a glimpse of the league's future member in a few weeks. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill, running back Cyrus Gray, wide receiver Jeff Fuller and kicker Randy Bullock have all officially accepted invitations to the 2012 game and will play on the South team, it was announced today.
Defensive back Coryell Judie also received and accepted an invitation to the game but will not be able to participate due to a wrist injury he suffered in the Aggies' bowl game. The 2012 Senior Bowl is set for 3pm (CT) on Saturday, January 28th in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game and all practices will be televised by NFL Network.
"All four of these players leave Texas A&M having set multiple school records over the course of their respective careers," Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said. "We can't wait to see them compete at the highest level here at the Senior Bowl and take advantage of this unique opportunity."
Tannehill, the first quarterback to be named to the South team, set new single-season school records for yards (3,744), attempts (531) and completions (327) in 2011. He was a finalist for the Unitas Award and Campbell Trophy and semifinalist for the O'Brien Award this season. He also finished second on the school's single-season list in touchdown passes (29) and total offense (4,050). In his first full season at quarterback this year, Tannehill had six 300-yard passing games, including a 415-yard output against Baylor.
Tannehill wrapped up his career at Texas A&M as the most accurate passer in school history, with a 62.5% completion percentage. He ranks sixth on the Aggies' all-time list in passing yards (5,450), fifth
in touchdown passes (42), fifth in completions (484) and seventh in attempts (774).
The Big Spring, Texas native will leave Texas A&M as perhaps the most versatile player in school history, having excelled at both quarterback and wide receiver. He is the only player in FBS history to post a 400-yard passing game and 200-yard receiving game. He is also the only player in FBS history to total more than 4,000 passing yards and 1,500 receiving yards in a career.
Gray posted his second consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season in 2011, becoming just the third player in school history to have back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. A second team All-Big 12 selection this season, Gray rushed for 1,045 yards and 12 touchdowns and added another 239 yards receiving on 31 catches and three receiving touchdowns. A threat in the return game as well, Gray led the Aggies with 1,400 all-purpose yards this year. He totaled five 100-yard rushing games in 2011, including a 218-yard effort in the Aggies' win over Kansas State.
Gray, a native of DeSoto, Texas, is A&M's record holder in career all-purpose yardage with 6,423, which ranks 24th in NCAA FBS history. He is also the school's record holder in game (261), season (1,169) and career (2,349) kickoff return yardage. He ranks third all-time in school history with 3,298 rushing yards and has scored 38 total TDs (30 rush, 6 rec., 2 KO return).
Fuller saved his best effort of the season for the Aggies' bowl game, reeling in seven passes for a season-high 119 yards and a touchdown. He caught 70 passes for 828 yards and six scores this year, earning Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors in the process. He leaves College Station as the school's all-time leading receiver in receptions (231), yards (3,092) and receiving touchdowns (34).
Fuller enjoyed his best season as an Aggie in 2010, setting school marks with 72 catches, 1,065 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. The four-year starter finished his career having caught at least one pass in every game he played (46).
Bullock took home the Lou Groza Award in 2011, given annually to the nation's top place-kicker. He was a consensus first team All-America selection (AP, Walter Camp, AFCA & Sporting News) and second team All-Big 12 pick. He had a record-setting year for the Aggies in 2011, becoming the school's single-season leader in scoring (142), field goals (29) and extra points (55). He connected on 29 of 33 field goals this year and led the nation with 2.33 field goals per game.
The Klein, Texas native is A&M's all-time career leader in field goals (63), field goal percentage (.788), scoring (365) and extra points (176).
