More Aggies Qualify for ITA Main Draw

Several Aggie tennis players are in to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships after strong performances Wednesday in Tulsa.

TULSA, Okla-Shane Vinsant, a true freshman on the Aggie men's tennis team, made his way through qualifying into the singles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships being held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Vinsant, from Keller, Texas, defeated  Ben Davis of Middle Tennessee, 7-5, 7-6 (2). Davis was seeded No. 30. With the victory, Vinsant enters the main draw against Chris Diaz of Ohio State in a match scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday

Vinsant also teamed with fellow freshman, Harrison Adams, from New Braunfels, to win their doubles match against the No. 7 seed duo of Alexis Heugas and Max Wennakoski of VCU, 8-5 in the third round and then qualified for the doubles main draw by defeating Drake's tandem of Anis Ghorbel and James McKie, 8-0. The Drake duo was seeded No. 16.

The Aggie tandem will now face Diego Acosta and Aaron Dujovne of Purdue, the No. 7 seed in the main draw. The match will not start any earlier than 5 p.m.

Another Aggie doubles team, sophomores Jordan Szabo from Australia and Jackson Withrow from Omaha, will face Billy Federhofer and Bob  van Overbeek from the University of Florida in a match scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
