Texas A&M men reclaim No. 1 in national rankings

NEW ORLEANS - Texas A&M men, fresh off winning the Big 12 Championships, returned to the No. 1 position in the national computer rankings released by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday. The Aggie women moved up one spot to No. 7 after placing third in the conference meet.
This is the final national rankings for the regular season. The next ranking, released on May 21, will only include data from those athletes who have qualified for the NCAA preliminary rounds. Texas A&M will compete in Austin for the NCAA West preliminary rounds from May 24-26.
Following the Aggies in the men's rankings are 2. Florida, 3. Indiana, 4. Arkansas, 5. Texas Tech, 6. LSU, 7. Texas, 8. Florida State, 9. Wisconsin, 10. Nebraska, 11. USC, 12. Mississippi, 13. Auburn, 14. Arizona State, 15. Arizona, 16. Mississippi State, 17. Virginia Tech, 18. Penn State, 19. Kansas, 20. Oregon, 21. Minnesota, 22. Stanford, 23. Oklahoma, 24. Baylor, and 25. Ohio State.
Texas A&M men became the first squad to sweep the 100, 200, 400, 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 at a Big 12 Championship. The previous best among those five events was four event wins by Texas A&M in 2010 as well as Baylor in 1998 and 2007.
Supplying the victories for the Aggies in the individual events were sophomore Prezel Hardy, Jr. in the 100 (10.03w) and 200 (20.33) along with freshman Deon Lendore in the 400 (45.13). The A&M relays posted winning times of 39.00 and 3:03.04, which Lendore anchored with a 44.8 split.
The Aggies also had three winning performances that included school record efforts from Henry Lelei in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:38.90), Wayne Davis II in the 110 hurdles (13.37) and Sam Humphreys in the javelin (259-1).
In the women's rankings LSU is No. 1 and are followed by 2. Kansas, 3. Oregon, 4. Florida, 5. Clemson, 6. Texas, 7. Texas A&M, 8. Arizona, 9. Texas Tech, 10. Arizona State, 11. Stanford, 12. Tennessee, 13. Arkansas, 14. Central Florida, 15. Louisville, 16. Oklahoma, 17. Illinois State, 18. Illinois, 19. Southern Illinois, 20. Baylor, 21. Georgia, 22. Ohio State, 23. USC, 24. Iowa State, and 25. Florida State.
Academic All-Big 12 Honors
Texas A&M had 17 athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 track and field team, as announced by the conference office. Will Barry was one of just seven male athletes who earned a 4.0 GPA in the Big 12.
The Aggies had seven women and five men earn first-team honors for having a grade point average of 3.20 or better. Five A&M athletes were named to the second team for having a grade point average between 3.00 and 3.19. Athletes also needed to have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests.
