Jul 17, 2012 | Football
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M football program recorded more preseason honors Tuesday when senior receivers Uzoma Nwachukwu and Ryan Swope were selected to the initial watch list for the 2012 Biletnikoff Award.
The Biletnikoff Award is given annually to the nation's top receiver and is selected by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of over 180 prominent football journalists, commentators and receivers. The 2012 winner will be presented live on December 6, 2012, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. on ESPN.
Ten semifinalists for the award will be announced on November 12, 2012, following the vote by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee. Likewise, the three finalists will be declared, following another vote, on November 19, 2012. Both Nwachukwu and Swope have been among the most proficient pass catchers in school history during their A&M careers, helping the Aggies reach bowl games each of the last three seasons while claiming a share of the 2010 Big 12 South title.
Nwachukwu, a native of Allen, Texas, sits alongside Swope and only just two other Aggies as having recorded 120 catches for over 1,500 yards and at least 10 touchdowns during their playing days at A&M. For his three-year career, Nwachukwu has pulled in 126 catches for 1,754 yards and 12 touchdowns, while posting at least one reception in 35 consecutive ballgames.
Swope, meanwhile, was honored as a second-team All-Big 12 performer a year ago after setting new school-records with 89 catches and 1,207 receiving yards. The Austin, Texas, product enters the 2012 campaign with 180 career receptions, second in the A&M record books to only Jeff Fuller's 233 career receptions, while his 2,204 career receiving yards places him third in school history.
