INDIANAPOLIS --- Texas A&M will be represented by seven swimmers at the 2013 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be contested Thursday through Saturday at the Indiana University Natatorium on the IUPUI campus. Prelims start at 10 a.m. and finals begin at 6 p.m. (central) each day.
The seven Aggies will be seeking the program's 18th straight top 25 national finish at the NCAA Championships, which is an all-sport school record at Texas A&M. The Aggies are one a handful of teams nationally that have finished in the top 25 every season since 1996.
Representing the Aggies in Indianapolis will be seniors John Dalton and John Wagner, juniors Simon Frank, Henrik Lindau, Paul-Marc Schweitzer and Kyle Troskot and sophomore Luke Shaw. Making return trips to the national meet are Dalton, Wagner, Lindau, Schweitzer, Troskot and Shaw, while Frank will be making his NCAA debut. All six of the NCAA veterans have earned All-America status during their careers.
Earning individual invitations to the NCAA meet were Dalton, Frank and Lindau. Dalton was invited in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles. Frank was invited in the 400 IM and will be eligible to swim the 200 IM and 200 backstroke. Lindau earned his spot in the 100 fly and can also compete in the 50 and 100 freestyles. Wagner, Schweitzer, Troskot and Shaw are eligible to compete in relays, and the Aggies are qualified in the 200-, 400- and 800-yard free relays.
Leading the way is Dalton, who became the second Aggie to earn All-America status in six events at a single NCAA meet last year. Dalton was top 16 in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyles and four relays last season in Federal Way, Washington. For his career, Dalton has finished top 16 at NCAAs 10 times, which ties for the eighth-most in school history.
Dalton is also one of two Texas A&M school record holders that will be competing at the NCAA meet. Dalton holds A&M's record in the 50 free (19.44 from the 2012 NCAA Championships) and the 100 free (42.74 from the 2013 SEC Championships). He also ranks No. 2 in school history in the 200 free (1:35.24 from 2013 SECs) and could be a threat to take down Balazs Makany's school standard of 1:34.63 from the 2011 NCAA meet.
The other school record holder at the Championships is Frank, who holds both the 200- and 400-yard IM records. Already the school record holder in both prior to the 2013 SEC Championships, he lowered his bests to 1:45.82 in the 200 IM and 3:46.70 in the 400 IM.
