Ameer Webb earns National Athlete of the Week honor from USTFCCCA

Texas A&M senior sprinter Ameer Webb was recognized as the men's National Athlete of the Week by USTFCCCA following his performance at the Texas Relays, which included three victories in the 100, 4x100 and 4x200.

NEW ORLEANS – Following his performance at the Texas Relays this past weekend Texas A&M senior sprinter Ameer Webb was recognized as the men's National Athlete of the Week by USTFCCCA.

Webb, named the Texas Relays Most Outstanding Performer, won the 100 meters in a world-leading 10.14 seconds as his career best places him No. 8 on the Aggie all-time list. Webb also ran on two winning relays as the Aggies claimed the 4 x 100 in 38.64 and the 4 x 200 in 1:20.78, both current U.S. and collegiate leaders.

In the 100 Webb's time of 10.14 bettered the previous 2013 world-leading time of 10.15 set by Jamaica's Jermaine Hamilton. Webb bettered a field that included LSU's Aaron Ernest (10.18), Brent Lee of Jackson State (10.33) and Mississippi's Isiah Young (10.35).

While the Aggies rolled to a commanding victory in the 4 x 200, enjoying a 2.5 second lead over Northwestern State (1:23.35) and Tennessee (1:23.85), a tougher field was defeated by A&M in the 4 x 100. Florida finished second to the Aggies 38.64 with a 38.99 while TCU (39.54) and LSU (39.56) finished third and fourth. Texas A&M improved its US and collegiate leading time from the 38.76 they ran a couple of weeks ago.

Webb's performance marked the second consecutive week he was part of three victories. Receiving honorable mention a week ago for the national honor, Webb won the 100 and 200 at the USC Trojan Invitational while leading off A&M's victorious 4 x 100 relay.
