A win against the Rebels will earn Texas A&M its first SEC regular season title in any sport. The Aggies, who clinched at least a share of the SEC Western Division crown with a 6-1 victory at Mississippi State on Friday, enter the final match tied with Florida and Georgia for first in the overall standings. The Gators, ranked No. 2 in the nation, close out their season on the road at No. 18 Vanderbilt, and fourth-ranked Georgia is at No. 8 Alabama. The Crimson Tide is one game behind the Aggies in the Western Division.
The Aggies, 9-0 in road matches, are riding a four-match win streak. They are led by senior All-American Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar, who is ranked fourth in the country in singles with a 34-6 overall record in 2012-13. Senior Nazari Urbina is ranked 52nd and is 9-1 in SEC contests. Junior Cristina Stancu is No. ranked No. 65 in singles, and she and freshman partner Stefania Hristov are No. 15 in doubles. In addition, Sanchez-Quintanar and senior Wen Sun are No. 56 in doubles.
The Rebels, who also are riding a four-match win streak after defeating Missouri, 4-1, on Friday, are led by Caroline Rohde-Moe, who is 24-16 overall in singles and ranked No. 39 in the nation. She and partner Marija Milutinovic are No. 38 in doubles.
A&M is 2-1 all-time against Ole Miss. The Rebels, however, defeated the Aggies, 4-3, last year in the season-opener at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Tallahassee, Fla.
Next up for the Aggies is the 2013 SEC Women's Tennis Championship, April 17-21 at Mississippi State's A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville, Miss. The bracket will be announced Sunday evening.
