Adams, from Cypress, Texas, won her heat with a time of 2:06.75, and enters Thursday's 200 fly final ranked behind only Spain's Mireia Belmonte Garcia's semis time of 2:06.53. Former A&M swimmer Rita Medrano, representing Mexico, placed 18th in the prelims in a time of 2:12.41 and did not advance. Already this year, Adams has picked up 200 fly titles at the Southeastern Conference Championships, the NCAA Championships and the U.S. National Championships.
At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Adams placed fifth in the 200 fly, which is the highest individual finish ever by a current Aggie swimmer at the Olympics. All three medalists from the London games are in Thursday's Worlds final: Liuyang Jiao of China (gold), Belmonte Garcia (silver) and Natsumi Hoshi of Japan (bronze).
