BIRMINGHAM – A pair of Aggie sprinters earned SEC Runner of the Week honors following their performances at the Razorback Invitational this past weekend. Kamaria Brown and Deon Lendore both won individual 400 meter races and added fast splits on the A&M 4x400 relays.
Brown ran her first 400 of the season and promptly produced one of the fastest times in the world with a 52.71 to go with the world-leading time of 22.96 she set in the 200 earlier this indoor season. Brown bettered a solid field at Arkansas with Florida's Ebony Eutsey (53.56) finishing second.
In the 4x400 relay Brown ran the second leg and moved the Aggies from fourth to first place with a split of 51.69. Texas A&M won the race with a world-leading time of 3:31.07 as they bettered Florida (3:31.52) and Arkansas (3:35.46).
Lendore, who also earned National Athlete of Week honors this week by USTFCCCA, earns his second consecutive weekly SEC honor. He lowered his world leading time in the 400 to 45.47 in defeating Florida's Arman Hall (45.63) and added a 44.57 anchor leg split in the 4x400 as the Aggies turned in a season best time of 3:05.06 for third place. The split from Lendore is the fourth fastest ever recorded indoors.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
Updated national team computer rankings from the USTFCCCA have the Texas A&M women ranked No. 3 and the Aggie men ranked No. 4.
Texas A&M placed second in the men's and women's team scoring at the Razorback Invitational with Arkansas men scoring 21 points in the heptathlon and the Razorback women turning in 16 points from the pentathlon. The Aggies didn't have entries in either event as they will host multi-event competitions during the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Gilliam Indoor Stadium.
Teams competing in the two-day meet this weekend in College Station include Arizona State, Baylor, Houston, LSU, TCU, Tennessee, UCLA and UTEP. Among the schools competing at Gilliam there are five men's teams currently ranked in the top 25 along with five women's teams.
