Texas A&M had a pair of athletes earn SEC Athlete of the Week honors from performances at the Stanford Invitational this past weekend. Olabanji Asekun shared the men's SEC Field Athlete of the Week while Austin Wells was named the men's SEC Freshman of the Week.
In updated USTFCCCA national team computer rankings, the Aggie women remained in the No. 1 position while the A&M men are No. 4. Competition this week will take the Aggies to the Sun Angel Track Classic hosted by Arizona State this Friday and Saturday in Tempe, Arizona.
Asekun won the long jump at Stanford as he produced the winning leap in the sixth and final round, moving from third to first place with a wind-aided mark of 25-7.25 (7.80). Asekun currently ranks fourth among collegians and is second best among SEC jumpers.
Wells produced a time of 29:53.90 among a loaded field for the men's 10,000 meters to record the fastest time by a freshman in the SEC so far this season, which ranks sixth best overall in the conference. On the A&M all-time list Well time ranks No. 5 with the No. 8 performance.
Following the Texas A&M women, who have a point total of 387.98, in the top 10 of the national rankings this week are Florida (364.16), Texas (310.68), Oregon (267.18), Kentucky (237.24), LSU (190.79), Southern California (168.85), Georgia (158.80), Arkansas (158.21), and Kansas (138.30).
Florida, with 345.51 points, now leads the men's field with Oregon (311.77), Arkansas (289.47), Texas A&M (288.18), Florida State (201.32), Wisconsin (198.04), LSU (169.96), Georgia (164.87), Alabama (160.84) and Texas Tech (154.11) completing the top 10.
