BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Texas A&M women's golf team remained tenth on the leaderboard at the 2014 SEC Women's Golf Championships at the Greystone Golf & Country Club Saturday afternoon.
“Our goal tomorrow is to move up the leader board as much as we can,” Texas A&M women's golf head coach Trelle McCombs said. “The weather was perfect we just did not take advantage of our opportunities today.”
Vanderbilt took the day two lead with a one-under performance, the Commodores were the only team to break par in two days of action on the par-72, 6,050-yard Founders Course.
A&M was led in Saturday's second round by freshman Andrea Jonama's even-par round. Jonama and fellow freshman Marijosse Navarro are each six-over through 36 holes, placing them in a tie for 19th place. Navarro finished the second round with three birdies in her final four holes.
“Happy with the way MJ finished her round today,” McCombs said. “She could not get anything to fall until her third hole then I told her the flood gates were going to open and they did. I am also really proud of how Andrea stayed in there throughout the round.”
Senior Chelsea Mocio finished day two in a tie for 39th place at ten-over par. Fellow senior Katerina Ruzickova is tied for 55th place at 13-over. Completing the maroon and white lineup is freshman Bianca Fabrizio in 64th place at 16-over.
Texas A&M will return to the course Sunday at 8:20 a.m. alongside golfers from Tennessee and Kentucky from hole 10. Live scoring for the event will be available at GolfStat.com. Stay tuned to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieWomensGolf on Twitter for coverage of Texas A&M women's golf.
