Pinder claims 4x4 silver, Facey earns 4x2 bronze at IAAF World Relays

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Two former Aggie sprinters were involved in medal winning relays during the second and final day of competition at the IAAF World Relays on Sunday in the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium. Demetrius Pinder earned a silver medal with the Bahamas in the men's 4x400 while Simone Facey was part of a bronze medal effort with Jamaica in the women's 4x200.

Pinder delivered a split of 43.8 on the second leg of the Bahamas 4x400, which placed second in 2:57.59 behind the winning time of 2:57.25 by the United States. Trinidad & Tobago established a national record of 2:58.34 in third place.

Facey ran the opening leg of the Jamaica 4x200 that placed third in a national record of 1:30.04 behind the United States (1:29.45) and Great Britain (1:29.61). Dominique Duncan also ran the first leg of the Nigeria 4x200 which produced a national record of 1:33.71 in seventh place.

The United States won the women's 4x400 in 3:21.73 over Jamaica (3:23.26) and Nigeria (3:23.41). After anchoring the prelim race, Jessica Beard did not run in the final for the American crew which included DeeDee Trotter, Sanya Richards-Ross, Natasha Hastings and Joanna Atkins.

Winner of the golden baton for the top country in the IAA World Relays, the United States totaled 60 points over Jamaica (41), Kenya (35) and Great Britain (24). The American women won four relays – 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800.
