Navarro Named WGCA All-American

CORAL SPRINGS, Florida - Texas A&M women's golfer freshman Marijosse Navarro received recognition by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) as a member of its Division I All-American Second Team, Thursday afternoon.

The selection process for this prestigious honor is quite rigorous and is determined by the WGCA Awards Committee for each Division. The Division I WGCA All-America Teams consist of 40 total players. Each team - first, second and honorable mention - consists of 13-11-16 players each. Criteria used to evaluate each player are as follows: Head to head competition, comparison with common opponents, scoring average (adjusted), place finishes in regular season events and tournament wins and strength of schedule.

Navarro finished sixth at the 2014 NCAA Championship just a week ago matching teammate Katerina Ruzickova's program best sixth place finish at the 2011 Championship. The freshman finished the 72-hole championship at even par after turning a team-best four-under on the final day of play.

In addition to her WGCA All-America award, Navarro was named to the association's all-region team.

Navarro, a native of Mexico City, has taken little time to adjust to college golf and has finished in the top-20 in all six tournaments since joining the maroon and white in January. The freshman arrived in College Station and immediately made an impact in the lineup, helping the Aggies finish in the top-5 in four of the six tournaments she has competed in.

Celine Boutier of Duke University, the PING WGCA Player of the Year, and Alison Lee, UCLA, the WGCA Freshman of the Year, highlight the 1st Team All-Americans. USC totaled five WGCA All-Americans with UCLA following on their heels with four All-Americans.
