SEC Champion. NCAA Champion. U.S. National Champion. Pan Pacific Champion. The spectacular season by 2014 Texas A&M senior Cammile Adams keeps getting better as the Cypress, Texas native tallied her first-ever victory in international competition with Thursday's 200-meter butterfly win at the Pan Pacific Championships in Gold Coast, Australia.
Noted for her back-half charge, Adams reeled in Japan's Natsumi Hoshi in the final 50 meters to grab the win in 2:06.61. At the 150-meter mark, Hoshi led Adams by .16 of a second, but Adams out-split Hoshi in the final 50 meters, 32.47 to 32.70.
“The back half is usually where I excel,” said Adams, who guaranteed her spot on Team USA for the 2015 FINA World Championships. “I just kind of had to believe that the back half was the best half.”
In other action involving Aggies, incoming freshman Lisa Bratton, qualified 17th in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:03.19. She missed qualifying for a spot in the evening finals by just a single spot.
