Texas A&M Women?s Tennis Well Represented in ITA Preseason Rankings

Texas A&M is well represented in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association women's individual preseason rankings, released today by the ITA.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M is well represented in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association women's individual preseason rankings, released today by the ITA.

Four A&M players are listed in the top 100 in singles, and three Aggie doubles teams are ranked in the top 40.

Highlighting the singles rankings is a career-high No. 34 showing by sophomore Saska Gavrilovska, the 2014 ITA Texas Region Rookie of the Year. A member of the 2014 All-SEC Second Team and the SEC All-Freshman Team, as well as a participant in the 2014 NCAA Singles Championship, Gavrilovska's previous highest singles ranking was No. 47 in the 2014 ITA final rankings published in June.

Newcomer Rachel Pierson, a sophomore transfer from the University of Virginia, is No. 54 in singles. From Princeton, N.J., Pierson was the 2014 ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year and was ranked No. 76 in the 2014 final singles rankings after posting a 31-16 record with the Cavaliers.

Junior Ines Deheza is a career-high No. 65 after finishing the 2013-14 season ranked No. 92, and junior Anna Mamlat enters the fall season ranked a career-high No. 99.

Pierson, an All-American in doubles last year, and Klaudia Boczova, a junior transfer from San Jose State and the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, are No. 35 in doubles. Deheza and Gavrilovska are No. 38 after finishing No. 84 in the 2014 final doubles rankings. In addition, the duo of Mamalat and sophomore Rutuja Bhosale is No. 39.

The Aggies open the fall season Friday as they compete at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas. The three-day tournament will be played at the Hurd Tennis Center, the site of the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Championships, May 15-24.
