OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – After opening its fall season with a dual win over Princeton last weekend, the Texas A&M men's golf team returns to the links this weekend when it takes part in the Olympia Fields Country Club Fighting Illini Invitational.
The 15-team event will take place on Olympia Fields Country Club's North Course, which will play at par 70 and 7,142 yards this weekend. The tournament's format will consist of three rounds of 18 holes beginning Friday and conclude with Sunday's final round.
“This is our first visit to Olympia Fields, and we couldn't be more excited to compete here.” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “It has played host to the US Open, and this field is extremely talented. It's a tough test to start the season, but also a great opportunity.”
Representing the Aggies will be Ben Crancer (Jr.), Cameron Champ (Fr.), Adrià Arnaus (Jr.), Andrew Lister (Jr.) and Andrew Paysse (Fr.).
Crancer and Champ have already garnered national attention this fall as the pair of Aggies were named preseason All-Americans by Golfweek.
The Aggies officially enter the new campaign as the No. 8 team in the Golfweek Preseason Countdown, as selected college expert Lance Ringler.
Joining Texas A&M on the Olympia Fields leaderboard will be No. 5 Alabama, No. 28 Arkansas, No. 27 Baylor, Colorado, Connecticut, No. 14 Florida State, No. 4 Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, No.13 Oklahoma, No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 20 Stanford, No. 1 Texas and Virginia Tech.
The Aggies will step to the tee box beginning at 9:45 a.m. Friday, where they will be paired alongside golfers from Alabama and Illinois.
