Catanzariti Advances at ITA All-American Qualifying

Texas A&M men's tennis freshman AJ Catanzariti continued his magical run through the ITA All-American field with a win at the ITA Qualifying first round. The qualifying draw feeds into the first men's national title of the fall season at the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships.

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M men's tennis freshman AJ Catanzariti continued his magical run through the ITA All-American field with a win at the ITA Qualifying first round. The qualifying draw feeds into the first men's national title of the fall season at the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships.

Catanzariti endured a three-set thriller over Eric Johnson of Southern Cal, Monday morning. The Pittsburgh native claimed the opening set 6-4 before falling in a tie-breaker in the second set. The freshman prevailed in a pivotal third set 6-3 to advance to face David Biosca of East Tennessee State on Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday's winner will play for a spot in the prestigious All-American bracket.

Senior Jeremy Efferding did not fare as well in the Sooner state, falling in the first round to Francisco Dias of George Washington. The Florida native was defeated in straight sets.

For the 10th straight year, the University of Tulsa will host the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships at the state-of-the-art Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
