COLLEGE STATION- Texas A&M's women's basketball team has been named in the Top 10 of every major preseason ranking, being ranked as high as third in the nation for 2014-15. Aggie junior guards Jordan Jones, Courtney Walker and Courtney Williams have also received All-American honors by various publications.
The Aggies are one of five teams to be consensus Top 10 picks, joining defending national champions Connecticut, Notre Dame, and SEC rivals South Carolina and Tennessee.
The Aggies' highest preseason rank comes from Athlon Sports, who ranks the Aggies' third overall. The publication says that “A&M could be back at the Final Four this year,” and named Courtney Walker a Preseason Second Team All-American.
Both ESPN.com's Charlie Crème and SI.com's Richard Dietsch ranked Texas A&M fourth in their pre-preseason rankings in April. In addition, Slam Magazine ranks A&M fifth, noting that “the two juniors [Walker and Williams] have all the tools to rise to the occasion.”
USA Today Sports' preseason preview has the Aggies sixth, and notes that the Aggies “have a good chance to compete for the national title.”
The Sporting News ranked Texas A&M seventh, noting that the Aggies, “could certainly snatch a Final Four spot this year.” The Sporting News named Jordan Jones First Team All-American, and named both Courtney Walker and Courtney Williams Second Team All-American.
Lindy's Sports has Texas A&M ninth in their preseason preview, and named Courtney Walker a Third Team All-American.
The Aggies begin their season on Nov. 14 at DePaul in the Maggie Dixon Classic.
