A&M's Rutuja Bhosale, Stefania Hristov and Anna Mamalat each got wins in the first and second rounds to advance to the round of 32. Ines Deheza and Rachel Pierson both had first round byes and posted second-round victories.
Aggie freshman Eva Paalma recorded a three-set victory in the opening round but retired trailing Savannah Durkin 2-1 in the third set of the second-round match. A&M's Mason Strickland had a first-round bye and fell in the round of 64. Saska Gavrilovska, the No. 2 seed in the 128-player singles draw, had a first-round bye and was slated to play Dasha Sharapova of SMU in the second round but withdrew.
In A&M's only doubles action of the day, Mamalat and Strickland fell to Ana Cordero and Agustina Valenzuela of North Texas, 8-3, in the first round of the 64-player doubles draw. A&M's other three doubles teams received first-round byes and will open play in the round of 32 at 9 a.m. on Friday.
The regional features some of the top players from across the state, with the winners advancing to face other regional winners across the country at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 6-9 in Flushing, N.Y.
