COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men's tennis team is set to host the 2014 Conference Challenge at the Mitchell Tennis Center beginning Friday morning. The Aggies will host Illinois, Texas Tech and LSU for a weekend full of matches.
The Aggies Friday schedule includes doubles matches at both 10 and 11:15 a.m. followed by singles matches at 2:30 p.m. The maroon and white are set to compete against members of each visiting school in all three time slots. Singles and doubles are set for three rounds on the weekend, with players set to face members of each team throughout the challenge.
The 2014 Conference Challenge singles field includes 10 ranked players, including four members of the top-15. The doubles field is just as stacked with six ranked doubles teams, including three of the top-25. The Aggies and Illini lead the field with a trio of ranked singles players, while both LSU and A&M have a pair of ranked doubles teams set to compete.
The maroon and white return to action following hosting the USTA/ITA Texas Regional last weekend at the Mitchell Tennis Center. Texas A&M sophomore Frankie Colunga captured the consolation title, while No. 11 Harrison Adams and No. 46 Jeremy Efferding made quarterfinals appearances in the main draw. A pair of A&M doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinals in the doubles bracket.
