COLLEGE STATION- Fans got a first look at the Texas A&M women's basketball team on Saturday, as White bested Maroon 58-51 in the program's annual Maroon & White Scrimmage at Reed Arena.
“I thought we shot the ball really well today, and I thought we ran the break well,” said Texas A&M Head Coach Gary Blair. “I thought we put on a good show and a lot of offense for our fans.”
A&M's trio of Preseason All-Americans had strong performances to lead the scrimmage. Courtney Walker led the event with 23 points off of 11-14 shooting. Courtney Williams scored 17 points with an event-high eight rebounds. Jordan Jones posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.
Tori Scott, Tavarsha Scott-Williams and Jada Terry all scored 12 points, while Curtyce Knox also reached double figures with 10 points. Taylor Cooper had a good day distributing the ball, picking up eight assists and seven points.
In the first half, the White team bested Maroon 37-35. The third period featured the Aggies taking on the men's practice team, a session the varsity women won 19-16, led by 7 points by Courtney Walker.
The Aggies return 83% of their scoring from a team that went 27-9 and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in 2013-14. The Aggies host an exhibition game on Nov. 8 against Oklahoma City at Reed Arena. Texas A&M tips off the regular season on Nov. 14 at DePaul, who A&M beat in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2014.
