SAN ANTONIO, Texas- Freshman Maddie Szeryk birdied four of the last six holes on Briggs Ranch Golf Club to shoot a five-under 67, and led Texas A&M's women's golf team to fourth place after the first of three days of the Alamo Invitational.
The Aggies shot a 283 (-5) on the day to finish the round in fourth place in the 15-team field. Arkansas and Auburn are the tournament's co-leaders after each shooting a 275 (-13) on Sunday.
Both Szeryk and sophomore Marijosse Navarro shot under-par on the 6,428 yard, par 72 track to move into the top 10 after one day. Szeryk has shot par-or-better in her last six rounds, while Navarro has shot par-or-better in all four of her rounds this season. Szeryk had eight birdies on the day, and is in third place entering the second round of the tournament, trailing the tournament's leader, Auburn's Sophia Schubert, by two strokes. Navarro is tied for eighth place after shooting a 3-under 69 on Sunday.
Sophomore Thanya Pattamakijsakul shot a 73 (+1) to move into a tie for 33rd after one day of play. Andrea Jonama rounded out the scoring for the Aggies with a 74 (+2) and is tied for 46th with her teammate Callie Scheffler, who is competing as an individual. Bianca Fabrizio is tied for 60th after shooting a 76 (+4).
The second of three rounds tees off on Monday at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio.
