A&M?s Gavrilovska Falls in Main Draw Round of 16

PACIFIC PALICADES, Calif. – Texas A&M's Saska Gavrilovska had her notable run in the prestigious Riviera/ITA All-American Championships come to an end today after falling to 33rd-ranked Carolyn Doyle of Stanford, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the main draw round of 16. The loss snapped a four-match win streak by the sophomore from Serbia.
"Saska's match with Caroline Doyle was likely the best college tennis match I've seen in the past year or two,” A&M head coach Howard Joffe said. “Today it was too bad for Saska, but if she continues her substantial development as a player and person, it's going to be awful tough for her opponents going forward."
In other action, A&M sophomore Rachel Pierson was playing in a main draw consolation match and was trailing Julia Elbaba, 7-5, 1-1, when Pierson retired with an injury.
Both A&M players had won three consecutive matches in the qualifying round to advance to the main draw.
Next up for the Aggies is the ITA Texas Regional, to be played Oct. 16-20 in Waco, Texas.
