COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Several members of the Texas A&M women's tennis team begin competition today at the Jack Kramer Intercollegiate Tournament to be held at the Jack Kramer Tennis Club in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.
It will be the final scheduled match of the fall season for Rutuja Bhosale, Eva Paalma and Mason Strickland. Saska Gavrilovska, the No. 2 seed in the 64-player singles draw, will be using this tournament as a tune-up for the ITA USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships next week in Flushing, N.Y., after receiving a wildcard entry in the singles draw.
Ines Deheza, who received an automatic entry with doubles partner Rachel Pierson at next week's national tournament, will compete in singles as well as doubles with Bhosale at the Jack Kramer Invitational.
Doubles action gets underway today at 11 a.m. CT as Strickland pairs with Baylor's Kelley Anderson to face No. 6 seed Natalia Janowicz and Joanna Nalborska of North Carolina State. No. 2 seed Bhosale and Deheza have a bye in the round of 32 and will begin play in the round of 16 at 3:30 p.m. CT.
Strickland opens the 64-player singles draw at 12:15 p.m. today against Lisa Fieldsend of North Carolina State, and Paalma faces 59th-ranked Zoe Katz of USC at 1:30 p.m. Bhosale takes the court at 2:45 to face Shani Blecher of San Diego at 2:45 p.m. Deheza, the No. 6 seed in singles, and Gavrilovska both have first-round byes and will begin competition at 6:30 p.m.
The tournament runs through Nov. 2.
