BOERNE, Texas- The No. 20 Texas A&M women's golf team heads to the Jim West Challenge at Tapatio Springs, hosted by Texas State to close out the fall portion of the season with a three-day, 54-hole tournament that starts on Sunday, November 2, with A&M teeing off at 10:20 a.m.
The Aggies take to the par 72 / 6,234 yard course, owned in part by George Strait, as part of a 12-team tournament. In addition to the Aggies and hosts Texas State, the field includes SEC rivals Ole Miss and Missouri, regional schools such as Houston, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech, plus Illinois, Wisconsin, Kent State, Iowa, and East Carolina.
Texas A&M set a school record by shooting 13-under par in the final round of the Alamo Invitational in their last time out—and had all five golfers in the lineup shoot under par for the first time in school history.
The Aggies are led by two underclassmen with scoring averages under 70—freshman Maddie Szeryk and sophomore Marijosse Navarro. Navarro leads the Aggies with a 69.33 scoring average—and has shot par-or-better in all six rounds she has played this season. Navarro finished fourth in the Aggies' last event, the Alamo Invitational, and has finished in the top 10 of both of her events this season.
Szeryk has a 69.78 scoring average and has shot par-or-better in seven of her nine rounds this season. The freshman from Allen, Texas has finished in the top five of every collegiate event she has played in.
Andrea Jonama, who shot a 67 (-5) on the last day of the Alamo Invitational to finish the tournament in 11th, Bianca Fabrizio and Thanya Pattamakijsakul round out the Aggies' lineup. Callie Scheffler is also competing in the tournament as an individual.
After the Jim West Challenge, the Aggies break until the spring semester, with the Seminole Match-Up in Tallahassee, Fla. Starting on Feb. 13.
