COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M led the SEC with six players on the 28-player all-league squad, the conference announced on Sunday.
The Aggies had four players named All-SEC First Team, including forwards Bianca Brinson and Annie Kunz, midfielder Shea Groom and defender Meghan Streight. Midfielder Kelley Monogue and defender Janae Cousineau were named to the All-SEC Second Team.
A&M defender McKayla Paulson was named to the 11-player SEC All-Freshman Team.
It marked the third straight season A&M has boasted the most honorees. The Aggies are just the second team to tally six All-SEC players in a year and the first since the SEC went to 14 teams. Vanderbilt set the mark with seven in 1995 when the league had 11 soccer-playing members.
A&M and Florida were tied with four first-teamers apiece and South Carolina (2) was the only other team to have multiple players on the All-SEC First Team.
Brinson earned her first-ever all-conference accolades. The senior has played in 16 matches, including 15 starts, logging 18 points on six goals and six assists. She leads the SEC with six assists in conference action. For her career, Brinson has 42 points on 12 goals and 18 assists.
This marks the third All-SEC honor for Groom, who was a second-team selection as a forward in 2012 and a first-team choice as a midfielder last year. On the season, Groom has started all 19 matches, ranking second in the SEC with 13 goals and third with 29 points. She leads the SEC with six game-winning goals. Last season, Groom was A&M's most decorated player, earning NSCAA All-America Third Team, NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team, Soccer America MVP Second Team and All-SEC First-Team. She was also a NSCAA All-South Region First Team and All-SEC Second Team performer as a sophomore in 2012.
Kunz picked up her second All-SEC award, also named a first-teamer in 2012. This season, she has 15 points on five goals and five assists. In SEC action, Kunz ranks seventh in the conference with 12 points on five goals and two assists. The Golden, Colorado native ranks seventh in A&M history with 37 goals and 11th in points with 88. Kunz is a two-time NSCAA All-South Region Second Team selection, earning the accolades in 2012 and 2013 and in 2011 she was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team.
Streight has earned all-conference recognition on four occasions, including All-SEC First Team status each of the last three years. The McKinney, Texas native leads all active NCAA Division I players in matches started with 93, starting every game during her career. She has four points on the year with one goals and two assists. Last season, Streight impressed in the classroom, garnering NSCAA Academic All-Scholar First Team, in addition to her All-SEC First Team accolade. Streight was A&M's most decorated player during her sophomore season, earning All-SEC First Team as a midfielder and pulling SEC All-Tournament Team, NSCAA All-South Region First Team and NSCAA All-America Third Team honors. As a freshman, she was named All-Big 12 Second Team, Big 12 All-Newcomer, Big 12 All-Tournament Team and NSCAA All-Central Region Third Team.
Cousineau is a first-time all-conference honoree. The junior has 13 points the season with six goals and one assist as a defensive midfielder. All six of her goals were in SEC action. She became the first Aggie to score a goal in six consecutive games since Linsey Woodard in 2002. The San Clemente, California native has been a stalwart on a defense that is holding opponents to a 0.96 goals-against average over the last two seasons.
Monogue ranks second in the SEC in points (30), third in goals (11) and seventh in assists (8). She is a repeat honoree, earning All-SEC Second Team in 2013. Nagged by a knee injury in 2012, Monogue missed out on All-SEC honors as a sophomore, but she dominated the awards circuit in 2011 as Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, Big 12 Rookie of the Year, All-Big 12 First Team, Big 12 Tournament Most Valuable Player, NSCAA All-Central Region First Team and Soccer America All-Freshman First Team. Playing in the midfield this season, Monogue has 16 points on six goals and four assists. For her career, she ranks fifth on A&M's career goals list with 46 and ninth on the career points list with 113.
Paulson was set to be the only freshman to start every match for the Aggies this season before suffering an injury in the waning minutes at Vanderbilt, the 14th match of the season. She has helped A&M post a 1.03 goals-against average and has one assist on the year.
Texas A&M's G Guerrieri was named the SEC Coach of the Year. The Aggies' Shea Groom was recognized as the Offensive Player of the Year. Kentucky's Arin Gilliland was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year, South Carolina's Savannah McCaskill was named SEC Freshman of the Year and Alabama's Laura Lee Smith was christened the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
