@AggieEquestrian Signs Four to Horsemanship Squad for 2015

The Aggies will welcome four newcomers to the Horsemanship squad in 2015

COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M equestrian Assistant Coach Jessie Weisinger announced the signing of four National Letters of Intent on Thursday. Madison Malsch, Ashley Sioco, Katie Conklin and Sarah Orsak will join the Aggies' horsemanship squad in the fall of 2015.

"Throughout my youth career it has always been my dream to ride for a collegiate equestrian team, said Conklin. “I fell in love with Texas A&M University because of the countless traditions and the amazing academic opportunities that it offers. I look forward to beginning my journey at Texas A&M and I am incredibly honored to have been chosen to be a part of the Aggie Equestrian Team."

Katie began her career riding with an Interscholastic Equestrian Association High School Team and showing with a variety of organizations including the APHA, AQHA, NRHA and PtHA. She has multiple top 10 finishes at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress and is a six-time World and Reserve World Champion with the Pinto Horse Association. She is also an Interscholastic Equestrian Association National Horsemanship Champion.

“We are very excited to have Katie join the Aggie Equestrian Team,” said Weisinger. “Katie has been riding with an Interscholastic Equestrian Association High School Team, which has given her a tremendous amount of experience with catch riding, and she should transition well into the collegiate format. Katie will make a great team member and we look forward to her joining our family.”

“I am so excited that I have the opportunity to be a part of the Texas A&M University Equestrian Team,” said Malsch. “August 2015 cannot come soon enough!”

Madison will come to Aggieland with a long list of accomplishments and award, including five time American Junior Paint Horse Association World/Reserve World Champion and two time AjPHA No. 1 Rider in the Nation. She had a breakout season in 2014, taking first place overall at the APHA Youth World Games as part of Team USA, finishing as a Horsemanship and Western Pleasure semifinalist at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Show and was named the Reserve High Point 14-18 Youth at the 2013 Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association Year End Awards. Madison is currently the Student Body President at Castle View High School (Castle Rock, Co.), as well as an active member of the National Honor Society, Interact Club and New Medical Club.

“We are very excited that Madison has chosen Texas A&M University,” said Weisinger. “She has extensive experience in the show pen and will be a huge asset to our Horsemanship Squad. In addition, Madison not only excels in the show pen, she is a great student and currently serves as her High School's student body president. We are looking forward to welcoming her next fall.”

"I am very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the A&M Horsemanship team and to become an official Aggie,” said Orsak. “I look forward to this new journey in my life and riding career."

Sarah is an accomplished rider who will have a great deal to add to the Aggie team. She has won World Show Championship honors and frequently placed in the top 10 on the AQHA and APHA show circuit.

“Sarah has had a very successful youth career in both the AQHA and APHA show circuit, winning World Show Championship honors and continuously placing in the Top 10 at major events,” said Weisinger. “Sarah is an outstanding rider and will bring invaluable experience to our Horsemanship squad. Her mother is an Aggie alumna and we are excited that Sarah chose to continue her education at Texas A&M.”

“I can say this is another goal of mine I can check off the list,” said Sioco. “Committing to Texas A&M was definitely a 'pinch me' moment and I cannot wait to start working with the team and the horses. I am very blessed to be offered this opportunity and I look forward to all the memories that will be made, not only being a part of a team but advancing my skill level as a rider.”

Ashley has been an incredible presence in the AQHYA, including 2013 World Show Horsemanship Finalist, Horsemanship third place year end and All-Around seventh place finishes. She was the 2012 NY Horsemanship Congress Champion. She took home several World Championships at the 2013 National Snaffle Bit Association: Limited NonPro Horsemanship, Intermediate NonPro Horsemanship, NonPro Horsemanship, Limited NonPro Hunt Seat Equitation and Intermediate Non Pro Showmanship.

“Ashley is a great addition to our team and will bring a wealth of talent to the horsemanship squad,” said Weisinger. “Ashley has participated in our summer camp and proved to be a great catch rider; we were impressed with her ability to ride many different horses. We are very excited to add Ashley to our Equestrian family.”
