BOCA RATON, Florida – The laurels continued to roll in for a Texas A&M Aggies squad in the midst of the best season in program history. On Wednesday, five Aggies were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region Team.
Shea Groom, Kelley Monogue and Meghan Streight all earned NSCAA All-South Region First Team honors while Bianca Brinson was named to the Second Team and Janae Cousineau was tabbed to the Third Team.
Texas A&M led all schools with both their five overall selections and their three first-teamers. Florida checked in with four overall selections and the Gators and South Carolina both had two first-team honorees.
For Streight, it marked her fourth year picking up all-region recognition. The senior, who has started all 100 games in her career, earned All-Central Region Third Team distinction as a freshman and All-South Region First Team accolades each of the last three seasons.
Groom was honored for the third straight year and Monogue earned her second honor, to go with her All-Central Region First Team campaign in 2011. Brinson and Cousineau both earned their first all-region honor.
Groom, the SEC Offensive Player of the Year and a Capital One Academic All-America First Team student-athlete, has 39 points on the season with 16 goals and seven assists.
Monogue ranks second in the country and 10th in the nation with 44 points. She owns team-highs with both her 17 goals and 10 assists.
Streight has started all 26 games on the backline, leading a defense that boasts a 0.91 goals-against average and nine shutouts.
Brinson, the SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player, has 29 points on the season with 10 points and nine assists. Her points and goals tallies both rank third on the squad while her assists rank second.
Serving as the Aggies' holding midfielder, Cousineau has contributed on the offensive end with 14 points on six goals and two assists with all of her goals coming in SEC play and the defensive side where she has played a part in nine shutouts.
Texas A&M is 22-2-2 on the season and the Aggies play in their first-ever College Cup on Friday. The Maroon and White captured the SEC Double for the second consecutive season with a regular-season title on a 9-1-1 mark and the tournament title with three consecutive shutouts, including a 1-0 blanking of Kentucky in the final. The Aggies became the first team since Florida in 2001 to record the SEC Double in back-to-back seasons.
