Edwards and Mueller Upgraded on Scholar All-Region List

Senior Leigh Edwards and Karlie Mueller were upgraded on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-South Region Team.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior Leigh Edwards and Karlie Mueller were upgraded on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-South Region Team. Edwards was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-South Region Third Team and Mueller earned recognition as an NSCAA Scholar All-South Region All-America Honorable Mention.

A clerical error last week had Edwards listed as an Honorable Mention and did not list Mueller.

In last week's announcement from the NSCAA, seniors Shea Groom, Annie Kunz and Meghan Streight were named to the NSCAA Scholar All-South Region First Team, junior Janae Cousineau was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-South Region Second Team.

Texas A&M led all schools with three First Team honorees as South Carolina was the only other squad with multiple players listed, putting two on the 11-player team. The Aggies owned five of the 33 players named in total on the First Team, Second Team and Third Team; and were joined by Auburn (3) and Florida State (3) as the only school with more than two designees.

Edwards was a Scholar All-South Region Second Team performer last season. She boasts a 3.68 grade-point average in political science.

The Coto de Caza, California native appeared in 99 matches during her career, including 67 starts. After moving from the midfield prior to her junior campaign, Edwards started all 52 matches at left back the last two seasons. She ended her career with five goals and 10 assists. She earned All-SEC Second Team honors in 2013.

Mueller appeared in 24 matches on the Aggies' backline this season. She logged five assists and was named to the SEC Defensive Player of the week on September 22 after A&M's 3-0 shutout win against Tennessee in which she recorded an assist.

For her career, Mueller has appeared in 68 games with 15 assists, including a team-high 10 assists last season.

Texas A&M experienced a historic campaign in 2014, setting a school record for wins on the way to its first-ever College Cup appearance. The Maroon and White went 22-3-2 on the season and won the SEC Double with a regular-season crown and tournament title. The Aggies became the first team to earn the SEC Double in back-to-back seasons since Florida in 2001. They also became the first SEC team since Florida in 2001 to advance to the College Cup.
