COLLEGE STATION --- Every team in the National Football League was represented as multiple members of the Texas A&M football team performed at the 2014 Texas A&M Pro Day presented by Opportune on Wednesday at the McFerrin Athletic Center.
Interacting with their possible future employers were 12 members of the 2013 Texas A&M football team – seniors Nate Askew, Kirby Ennis, Nehemiah Hicks, Toney Hurd Jr., Tramain Jacobs, Steven Jenkins, Travis Labhart, Ben Malena, Jake Matthews and Derel Walker and sophomores Mike Evans and Johnny Manziel.
Projected first-rounders Evans, Manziel and Matthews all attended the NFL Combine two weeks ago, and did not test again on Wednesday, although Matthews performed a variety of offensive line drills for the scouts. Some of the Aggies did little testing while rehabilitating injuries or surgery. Ennis, who was lost with a knee injury in game five of 2013, only tested on the bench press and responded with 27 repetitions of 225 pounds. Hicks and Hurd Jr. did not do any of the drills, but did meet with teams.
Askew, who measured in at 6-3 and 241 pounds, turned in an exceptional pro day effort, highlighted by a 4.45 clocking in the 40-yard dash and a 38-inch vertical jump. He also had a broad jump of 10-6 and times of 4.47 in the 5-10-5 shuttle, 7.17 in the 3-cone and 11.81 in the long shuttle. Askew transitioned from wide receiver to linebacker as a senior.
Jacobs, a 5-foot-10.5, 182-pound defensive back, turned in swift times of 4.45 in the 40-yard dash, 4.3 in the 5-10-5 shuttle and 7.02 in the 3-cone.
Jenkins, a 5-foot-11, 216-pound linebacker, had times of 4.76 in the 40, 4.42 in the 5-10-5 and 7.22 in the 3-cone and 11.82 in the long shuttle.
Labhart, a 5-foot-9, 180-pound wide receiver, was quick and explosive with a broad jump of 10-1 and times of 4.23 in the 5-10-5, 6.74 in the 3-cone and 11.15 in the long shuttle. He also had a 4.64 clocking in the 40 and a 35.5-inch vertical jump.
Malena, a 5-foot-8, 194-pound running back and special teams ace, turned in swift times of 4.54 in the 40, 4.28 in the 5-10-5 and 7.11 in the 3-cone. He also turned in 22 reps of 225 pounds on the bench and a 9-3 broad jump.
Walker, a 6-foot-1, 188-pound wide receiver, had an impressive 37.5 vertical jump and also turned in times of 4.32 in the 5-10-5, 6.85 in the 3-cone. His broad jump of 10-6 tied for the best of the day and he had a 4.62 clocking in the 40-yard dash.
