Texas A&M Tied for Ninth at Liz Murphey

ATHENS, Georgia – The Texas A&M women's golf team finished Friday's round at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in a tie for ninth. As the tournament continues Saturday, the Aggies will participate in two rounds of match play in the Black Bracket Saturday.
The par-72, 6,335-yard University of Georgia Golf Course proved tricky for the 16-team field in Friday's round, only first-round leader Northwestern finished under-par as a team. Joining Northwestern in the Red Bracket is Arkansas, Alabama, USC, Auburn, Mississippi State, Denver and NC State. The Black Bracket will consist of Texas A&M, Michigan State, Georgia, Iowa State, Indiana, Troy, Daytona State and Georgetown.
“We did not finish today,” head coach Trelle McCombs said. “We had it going earlier in the round and just needed to finish.”
Leading the charge for A&M on day one was senior Katerina Ruzickova at two-over par in a tie for 15th place, while fellow-senior Chelsea Mocio was just one stroke behind in a tie for 22nd. Senior Natalie Reeves and freshman Marijosse Navarro both finished the day at seven over-par in a tie for 51st. Freshman Bianca Fabrizio completed the maroon and white contingent in a tie for 74th at 12 over-par.
As the number two seed in the Black Bracket, the Aggies will play a round of match play against golfers from Daytona State. The winner of the match will face the winner of Georgia versus Troy in Saturday afternoon's match-play round.
“We always look forward to match play,” McCombs said. “We know now that you can't take anything for granted when it comes to match play.”
