Three Aggie victories highlight first day of Stanford Invitational

Little produced an impressive early season time of 57.58 to dominate the 400 hurdles, winning the event convincingly over a runner-up time of 59.66 by Fresno State's Kyra Johnson and a third-place effort of 60.01 from Washington's Gianna Woodruff.
While just missing her career best of 57.44 in the hurdles from the 2012 USATF Junior Championships, Little moves to No. 3 on the A&M all-time list. Little is now ahead of Anjanette Kirkland (57.75), Donique' Flemings (57.76) and Jennifer Williams (57.77) on the all-time list and trails only the school record of 55.24 set in 1998 by Rosa Jolivet and a 56.44 from Andrea Sutherland.
“It's very exciting to run near my PR that I ran at end of season in 2012,” said Little. “It definitely gives me a lot more confidence of what I can do this season. I know I can get faster. Running 51 indoors gave me an indication of what I would be able to do in the hurdles. I'm so happy to be that high on the all-time list at Texas A&M.”
For the 2014 season Little is the third fastest American, behind a 56.60 by Kentucky's Kendra Harrison and a 57.06 by Landria Buckley that were both set at the Florida Relays this weekend. Little currently leads the world junior list for 2014, topping a 58.20 run by Jamaican Genekee Leith at the end of March.
The Aggies swept the Invitational long jumps as Asekun claimed the men's title with a wind-aided 25-7.25 (7.80, 2.2 wind) and Moen-Davis captured the women's title with a 20-7 (6.27). Finishing behind Moen-Davis was Fresno State's Je'Nia Sears (20-5) while teammate Melissa Mays placed fifth with an 18-8.5 mark.
Asekun opened the long jump with a 23-10.75 (7.28) and then had four consecutive fouls before producing the winning effort in round six. He moved from third to first and bettered the field by a decent margin as Bracin Skywalker finished second at 24-10.5 while A&M teammate Jonathan Turner (21-7.25) was ninth in the men's long jump.
In the men's 100 final Shavez Hart placed second with a 10.32 (1.7 wind) behind a 10.22 for Merritt's Kemarley Brown's 10.22. Ruben Williams finished third in 10.46.
Brittany Wooten pole vaulted in the morning rain, clearing 12-6.25 (3.82) for second place. The clearance initially placed Wooten in a tie for first place with Chico State's Kasey Barnett. When both missed three attempts at 13-4.25 (4.07) then a jump-off at 12-10.75 (3.93) was needed. Barnett cleared for the win.
Brea Garrett, who will make her 2014 debut in the hammer tomorrow, placed second in the Invitational shot put with a mark of 49-7.75 (15.13) to finish behind a 50-5.50 for Nevada's Kerri Simmons.
Devin Bogert finished fourth in the Invitational javelin with a throw of 223-4 (68.07). Chase Wolfle cleared 16-3.25 (4.96) for fourth place in the Invitational pole vault, where 16-9.25 (5.11) was the winning height.
In the men's 3,000m steeplechase Isaac Spencer ran 8:53.70 to place ninth in a fast field while former Aggie distance runner Henry Lelei placed sixth in 8:50.14.
Devion Harris and Sam McSwain both cleared 6-7 (2.01) in the high jump. Misses determined places with Harris tying for fourth while McSwain placed seventh.
Ibukun Mayungbe finished sixth in the women's 400 with a 54.87. India Daniels finished seventh in the women's 100 final with an 11.94. Jennifer Madu did not run the final after leading qualifiers with a 11.76.
Ashley Chamberlain led her section of the 1500 for a majority of the race and finished second with a time of 4:35.55 as Yale's Emily Waligurski claimed the win in the final 20 meters of the race. Cameron Villarreal ran a 3:51.42 for ninth in a section of the men's 1500 while Ryan Teel finished eighth in his section of the 1500 with a 3:57.80.
In the women's javelin Jena Hemann's mark of 130-5 (39.75) placed eighth. A leap of 17-10.75 placed Jordan Wilson sixth in the collegiate long jump. Sierra Patrick cleared 5-5 to tie for fifth in the high jump while Hemann tied for 11th with a 5-3 clearance.
Aggie freshmen competing in the hammer made the A&M all-time list. Alison Ondrusek placed 10th in the Invitational division with a 172-11 (52.70) and is No. 3 on the all-time list with the No. 7 performance. Austin Cook placed 14th in the collegiate hammer with a toss of 167-6 (51.06), which places him eighth on the Aggie all-time list.
