May 23, 2014 | Women's Golf
TULSA, Oklahoma – The Texas A&M women's golf team rallied to claim a tie for 10th at the 2014 NCAA Championships at the Tulsa Country Club. The Aggies fired their lowest round of the week and were one of only five teams to break par on Friday at the par-70 6,194 yard championship course.
“A top-10 finish is incredible when you are in such an elite field of teams and players,” Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs said. “I'm so proud of the way our girls performed today. They left everything out there and that's what they needed to do.”
Freshman Marijosse Navarro finished sixth after turning in a four-under round. The Mexico City native matched teammate Katerina Ruzickova's program best sixth place finish at the 2011 Championship. , the eloquently nicknamed 'Queen of Putts', tallied five birdies including four on the front nine against just one bogey in the Aggies best round of the week.
“Like I have said all spring, MJ is a special player,” McCombs said. “She is the real deal and is still young but a very talented player. She played like a true champion today.”
No. 3 Duke claimed the championship by two strokes, fending off a final day charge from No. 1 Southern Cal. No. 2 UCLA claimed third place followed by No. 7 Oklahoma and No. 5 Arizona State. Rounding out the top-10 were No. 27 Mississippi State, No. 11 Arizona, No. 22 Ohio State, No. 10 Alabama, No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 30 Texas A&M and No. 17 NC State. Reeves finished at 15-over for the tournament and claimed a tie for 67th. Fellow senior Katerina Ruzickova continued to improve each time out on the course as she finished even par in the final round and 10-over for the tournament in a tie for 38th.

The Fort Worth native tied for 113th in her final round representing the Aggies at 26-over. Freshman Andrea Jonama was eight-over par on Friday to finish in a tie for 105th at 24-over through 72 holes.
“It was a real treat coaching these three seniors,” McCombs said. “I cannot thank them enough for representing Texas A&M with true class and dignity. It will be difficult to fill the lineup next season without these quality young ladies.”
Texas A&M competed in the NCAA Championship for the fourth time in McComb's seven seasons in Aggieland. The Aggies have finished in the top-10 three times under McCombs after doing it only twice in the program's history prior to McCombs arrival. It was A&M's 12th all-time appearance at the NCAA Championship.
