
Navarro Charges into Match Play at US Women?s Amateur Championship

GLEN COVE, NY – Texas A&M sophomore Marijosse Navarro claimed one of the final match play spots at five-over par through 36 holes on the 6,297 yard, par-70 Nassau Country Club at the US Women's Amateur Championship.
The A&M golfer entered the second round tied among 16 players at two-over par including four-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion Meghan Stasi, 2014 Canadian Women's Amateur champion Augusta James and local favorite Annie Park, of Levitton, NY.
The Mexico native was one of 13 competitors that posted a two round total of 145 strokes. The cut came at 8-over 148, leaving an 8-for-3 playoff to determine the final match-play qualifiers. Two holes were completed before play was suspended due to darkness, with three players eliminated. Michelle Piyapattra, Mariana Sims, Haylee Harford, Lakareber Abe and Mary Chandler Bryan will resume the playoff Wednesday at 6:15 a.m. CDT.
The 2014 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship consists of 36 holes of stroke play followed by six rounds of match play. The championship is scheduled to conclude with a 36-hole final at 8:30 a.m. EDT on Sunday.
The U.S. Women's Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
Wednesday's matches are slated to begin at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, just a small portion have match ups to be determined following the playoff. Navarro and her round-of-64 opponent, Andrea Lee, of Hermosa Beach, Calif. are set to tee off at 12:20 p.m.
Navarro is fresh off an impressive runner-up performance across the country at the US Girls' Junior Championship at the Forest Highlands Golf Club's Meadow Course in Flagstaff, Ariz. Prior to the summer circuit Navarro set at A&M record with a sixth place finish at the NCAA Championship in Tulsa, Ok.
