Aggie Men down Bears, fall to Vols

Posting individual wins against both Tennessee and Missouri were senior Luke Shaw in the 200 freestyle, freshman Tyler Henschel in the three-meter dive, sophomore Jacob Gonzales in the 100 free and freshman Gonzalo Carazo in the 500 freestyle.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team opened 2015 with a split of a double dual meet with a win over Missouri State and falling to Tennessee on Thursday at the Student Recreation Center.

The Aggies, who improved to 4-2 in dual meets, won 10 of 16 events against the Missouri State Bears on the way to a 175-119 win, while falling to the No. 15-ranked Volunteers 184-115. The Aggies return to the pool on Friday with a 12 noon dual against No. 18 Alabama at the Rec.

Posting individual wins against both Tennessee and Missouri were senior Luke Shaw in the 200 freestyle (1:39.18), freshman Tyler Henschel in the three-meter dive (363.85), sophomore Jacob Gonzales in the 100 free (45.15) and freshman Gonzalo Carazo in the 500 freestyle (4:32.56).

Logging individual wins against Missouri State were freshman Mauro Castillo in the 100 breaststroke (56.33) and 200 breaststroke (2:01.16), sophomore Turker Ayar in the 200 butterfly (1:51.89), junior Cory Bolleter in the 50 free (20.40), Henschel in the one-meter dive (376.35) and Shaw in the 100 fly (49.04).

The Aggies also grabbed wins over Missouri State in both relays with the 200 medley relay of freshman Brock Bonetti, Castillo, Shaw and Bolleter touching in 1:29.98 and the foursome of Shaw, Bolleter, Gonzales and junior Antoine Marc winning the 400 free relay in 3:01.37.
