COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 4-ranked Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team opened 2015 with a sweep of No. 11 Tennessee and SMU in a double dual meet on Thursday at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
The Aggies overpowered No. 11 Tennessee, 174-112, and SMU, 174-112, to improve to 7-0 in dual meets this season. The two victories also improved the Aggies' unbeaten streak to 20 dual meets dating back to their last last in January 2013. The Aggies will seek to extend the streak to 21 when they take on Alabama in a 12 noon dual meet at the Rec on Friday.
Continuing a season-long trend, senior Sarah Henry led the way against the Lady Vols and Mustangs with a trio of individual wins. Henry, from Garner, N.C., was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.95), the 500 free (4:46.65) and the 200 IM (2:00.30).
Also grabbing multiple individual victories were freshman Beryl Gastaldello in the 100 backstroke (54.56) and the 100 butterfly (54.32), senior Sammie Bosma in the 50 free (22.62) and the 100 free (49.43), and sophomore Maddie Hudkins in the one-meter dive (305.30) and the three-meter dive (318.40).
Contributing single victories were sophomore Sarah Gibson in the 200 free (1:48.09) and freshman Lisa Bratton in the 200 back (1:57.36).
The Aggies also opened and closed the meet with relay victories. The 200 medley relay of Gastaldello, sophomore Sycerika McMahon, Gibson and Bosma was victorious in 1:39.15, while the 400 free relay of junior Claire Brandt, Gibson, senior Emily Neubert and Bosma touched first in a time of 3:23.03.
